Golf Course Superintendent
Jon Urbanski began working on golf courses over 28 years ago and came to Vicmead in December 2004. His career has enabled him to work on some of the most prestigious golf courses throughout the mid-Atlantic and mid-west regions. Jon has been a golf course superintendent for the last fifteen years. He graduated from Moravian College with a B.A. in Accounting where he played football and baseball. Deciding that his love of game of golf outweighed becoming a CPA, he went on to graduate from the Institute of Applied Agriculture at the University of Maryland with a certificate in Golf Course Management in 1999.
He was recruited by Wilmington Country Club (Wilmington, DE) and served one year as an assistant superintendent on both the North Course (Dick Wilson designed) and the top 100-rated South Course (Robert Trent Jones) before being promoted to the position of South Course Superintendent.
In 2002, he was hired by the Suburban Club of Baltimore County (A.W. Tillinghast) in Pikesville, Maryland for the position of Golf Course Superintendent. Two years later he was recruited by Bidermann Golf Course in Wilmington, Delaware for the position of Golf Course Grounds Superintendent returning to the state of his youth.
Jon currently serves as Past President for the Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents. Away from the golf course industry, Jon has volunteered as the Basketball Program Coordinator at Immaculate Heart of Mary School and also coaches CYM and AAU basketball,. Jon has served as Treasurer of the PTO at Richardson Park Learning Center. Jon is married to his wife, Katie, of 16 years and they have a daughter, Alexa, and son, Johnny.
First Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Dave is entering his fifth season with the Club and received his B.S. degree in Agronomy and Environmental Sciences from Delaware Valley College in the spring of 2012, with a specialization in Turf Management.
Dave interned at Fieldstone Golf Club the summers of 2009 and 2011, gaining valuable staff management experience. He also interned in 2010 at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox.
In his spare time, Dave enjoys the game of golf and working on his family’s farm in Pennsville, New Jersey.
Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
This is Charlie’s second season with the Club. He received his certificate in Turfgrass Management from Rutgers University in 2014. He conducted his internship with the Hyannisport Club in Massachusetts during the summer of 2014. He volunteered at the 2015 PGA AT&T National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach.
The majority of wood craftsmanship that you see around the course can be attributed to Charlie’s carpentry skills. He enjoys duck hunting and fishing on his days off from the course.
Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Trainee
Luis has joined the Club this past March upon graduating from Penn State University receiving his certificate in Turfgrass Management. His past work experiences include Greenspring Valley Hunt Club and Caves Valley Golf Club.
He has volunteered at the 2015 US Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club and the 2015 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
John is entering his second season with the Club. He has over twenty years in the golf business and his past work experiences include Wilmington Country Club, Atlantic City Country Club, Fieldstone Golf Club, White Clay Creek Country Club and Rock Manor Golf Course.
John’s ability to operate all golf machinery, coupled with being an avid golfer, makes him the ideal team member to maintain the Club’s equipment fleet. John and his wife Mandi of six years reside in north Wilmington.
Peter joined our staff this spring bringing a wealth of experience in horticulture. His love for the green industry began as a high school student while cutting lawns in his neighborhood after school. His interest continued to grow and after earning a BS from Temple University, he spent his entire adult career in the residential and commercial landscape industry.
Peter’s interest in the study of plants, trees, sustainable plantings and rain garden creations fostered many additional hours of course work and study, as well as, securing a Landscape Design certificate from Cook College at Rutgers University.
Golf Course Grounds Intern
Joe will begin his internship this May. He is a Turfgrass Management major at Penn State University – Berks Campus.
He comes from a lineage of turf managers, as his uncles are the Golf Course Superintendents at Aronimink Golf Club and Overbrook Golf Club where Joe has been employed with each of these grounds operations.
